Math Madness: The 9th Annual Department of Mathematics Day (DMD) is just around the corner, and we’re excited to invite you to join in the fun math activities.

Date: Friday, November 17, 2023

Time: 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Venue: Peters Business Building (PB) – Various Classrooms, including PB 013 and others.

The Mathematics Department is thrilled to celebrate the 9th Annual Department of Mathematics Day (DMD), and we want you to be a part of it.

Here’s a breakdown of the day’s activities:

WATCH:

  • Student Mini-Conference: Discover the fascinating math and statistics research world as your peers present their projects. If you’re interested in getting involved in research or becoming a presenter at DMD, reach out to Dr. Mario Bencomo (bencomo@mail.fresnostate.edu), Dr. Tran (khangt@mail.fresnostate.edu), or your professors for guidance.
  • Ignite Talks: Get inspired by quick, 5-minute “Ignite Talks” about math with some special guest speakers.
  • Math Jeopardy: Enjoy the math-themed version of the popular game show.
  • MGT: “Math’s Got Talent” + Awards Ceremony: Cheer on the talented participants in the Math’s Got Talent showcase and celebrate the winners of the problem-solving competitions.

PERFORM:

  • MGT: “Math’s Got Talent” Showcase: Showcase your unique talents, whether singing, dancing, juggling, playing a musical instrument, or magic tricks. All talents are welcome!

PLAY:

  • Games + Food: Enjoy card games, board games, and other table games, along with delicious food!
  • Compete in Math Jeopardy: Assemble a team of up to 4 students and put your math knowledge to the test in the Math Jeopardy competition. Registration is limited to the first 4 teams. Register your team by filling out this application form.

Participating in DMD is not just about winning prizes; it’s an opportunity to showcase your mathematical skills, gain recognition among your peers, and share your love for math. 

Please invite your friends, whether they are math majors or not.
